Preparing for Your Dog’s Slatmill Session: Essential Guidelines
Welcome to our slatmill experience!
To ensure a smooth and enjoyable session for your furry companion, here are some key points to keep in mind:
Setup Requirements:
-
A flat, level surface is all we need to park our Van.
-
Our van stands at 2.7 meters high, including the air conditioning unit, so it cannot be accommodated under low coverings.
Pre-Session Tips:
-
Every dog is unique when first encountering the Slatmill. It’s a completely new experience, in a foreign environment, and on a surface they may not have encountered before. Some dogs may need more time to become comfortable with the Slatmill. Patience is key during this initial encounter. It’s normal for some dogs not to take to the Slatmill the first time and appear nervous. We’ll work with your animal to ensure they move at a comfortable pace, gradually building confidence during the session. Interestingly, we’ve seen great improvement in some dogs by the third session, while others take to running immediately.
-
Please ensure your dog has relieved itself before the session to avoid any accidents, although they can still occur.
-
Trimmed nails are crucial to prevent any injuries from occurring due to nails getting caught in the slatmill’s moving parts.
Health and Safety Measures:
-
To minimize the risk of GDV/bloat or twisted intestine, we advise a no food period of at least 1 to 2 hours before and after the session.
Harness and Equipment:
-
We provide specially designed harnesses for the sessions, but you’re welcome to use your own if preferred. Note that certain types, like “no pull” or fashion harnesses, are not suitable for slatmill activities.
-
We recommend a “Y” front harness to ensure your dog’s movement is unrestricted and comfortable.
Photography and Social Media:
-
We capture videos and photos during sessions for promotional purposes. If you prefer not to participate, please inform us.
-
Feel free to take your own photos or videos and share them on social media, tagging our page.
Bringing Motivation:
-
We provide a range of treats and toys to encourage your dog to participate in the session.
-
Bring along your dog’s favorite toy or a high-value treat to encourage their movement on the slatmill.
-
Owner Presence: Owners are welcome to be present during the session to provide comfort and assurance to their pets.
Health Check and Vaccinations:
-
It’s essential that your dog is in good health and fully vaccinated before participating in slatmill activities.
-
Please consult with your veterinarian or a dog physiotherapist to confirm that slatmill exercise is a suitable and safe option for your pet.
The legal stuff!!!!!!!!

-
Proper grooming and maintenance of your pet's toenails are essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience during our sessions. We kindly request that all clients trim their dog's toenails before their scheduled session. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in the refusal of service, as overgrown nails pose a risk of damage to our equipment and facilities. In such instances, clients will be held responsible for the full session fee, regardless of whether the service was rendered or not. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in maintaining a safe environment for all.
Our Commitment to Safety:
-
We use treats that are free from common allergens and made with natural ingredients to ensure the well-being of all dogs in our care.
-
Our treats are chosen for their nutritional value, taste, and ability to keep dogs engaged and focused during exercise.
Owner’s Responsibility:
-
We recognize that each dog is unique, and some may have specific dietary restrictions or allergies. Owners must inform us of any known allergies or sensitivities their dog may have before the session begins.
-
By providing us with this information, we can avoid any potential health issues and ensure a positive and safe experience for your pet.
We are dedicated to making your dog’s exercise time enjoyable and rewarding, and your cooperation in notifying us of any allergies is greatly appreciated. Together, we can create a fun and secure environment for every dog to thrive in.
